Service Packs

Service packs are a key part in keeping your computer up-to-date. Not only do they help to protect your computer from the latest security threats but they also enhance and sometimes add new features to the windows operating system.

Here is how to check to see which service pack is installed on your computer:

XP & Vista - Click on the start button, then control panel, then system (if you dont see it then click classic view on the left side) and there it will display what version of windows you are running along with the service pack version.

The newest service pack for Windows XP is Service Pack 3.

The newest service pack for Windows Vista is Service Pack 1.

XP & Vista - Click Here or to manually open the Windows Updates click on the start button, then all programs, then click on Windows Update.

Install Microsoft Windows Updates on a regular basis to ensure your computer has the latest security patches and updates.

You can either set your computer to automatically download and install updates for you or you can manually install updates whenever you like.

Automatic Updates for Windows XP:

  • Click Start, (Settings if on classic Start Menu), Control Panel
  • Double click on “System”.
  • Choose the Automatic Updates tab
  • Click the circle next to Automatic 
  •  Automatic Updates for Windows Vista:

  • Click Start, Control Panel.
  • Double click on Windows Update.
  • On the left is “Change Settings”.
  • Set it to automatic

     

    To manually install updates in Windows XP or Windows Vista you can open Internet Explorer and then go to http://update.microsoft.com or click on the start button, then all programs, then click on Windows Update.
